Samsung have announced that their mobile phone ‘Moment' will be the first phone that can show Mobile DTV, the new free-to-air mobile TV standard that's launching early this year. Free mobile television will be launching across a range of laptops, Phones and other mobile devices during the year. Samsung also revealed they will trial the Mobile DTV enabled Moment in the Washington and Baltimore areas during the first quarter of the year.

The Mobile DTV standard will let local broadcasters to transmit free digital signals to phones and portable devices using their existing broadcast spectrum. Over 35 stations are already online, with five in Las Vegas doing demonstrations at CES. Stations in 96 of the top 100 US markets have already signed up to broadcast mobile TV.

Around 170 million US consumers which equates to 85% of the total US Internet demographic each saw around 182 videos during the month, comScore said, for a total time of 12.2 hours. Google sites drew 129 million unique viewers who watched an average of 94.7 videos each, with Yahoo! (55.1 million UV/8.5 videos) and Fox (50 million UV/8.9 videos) coming in the next 2 positions.

Across all the numbers, ComScore revealed that the average length of time for watching online videos was around four minutes showing that watching a marathon session online is still something that the public avoid.
When it comes to illegal downloads, US internet users love to dive in and get downloading. In fact it has become more popular to download a torrent than actually watch the show legally.
Heroes from NBC tops the list according to Torrentfreak (file sharing tracker), with around 6.8 million illegal downloads during 2009 whilst only achieving 5.9 million actual television viewers.
