Inspired by the idea of escape into the the hills on horseback or by foot,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Yohji Yamamoto equipped his fall collection with messenger bags,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], hooded scarves,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], leg and arm warmers,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], short bill caps,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], voluminous coats and ponchos as well as plenty of neoprene pieces in case of inclement weather.
The collection was rugged yet futuristic with exposed and frayed seams,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], pops of red and electric blue, structured collars,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and materials with a sheen. Yamamoto introduced two new types of fabric this season—Cool Max Wool that’s equipped with an evaporative cooling system, and Diaplex, a wool herringbone that is meant to be like a second skin.

For women, we loved the cocoon-like pleated skirts paired with simple tops and chunky leather belts. On the back of the men’s coats, we loved the stencils of bucking horses and phrases like “Homeward Bound” or “I’m on the Road.” Our favorite look for the boys was an olive green jacket and cargo pants with a colorful tribal print headband.
Tucked away in a dim room below street level in SoHo awaiting the Y-3 show, we sat on rustic benches and music from what could have been a John Wayne film blared from the speakers. We half expected to see a tumbleweed roll by,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but instead we saw models properly outfitted for a journey into the wilderness.
