If you have a dog, you've likely faced the "dog toy problem". You start out with
cute little fuzzy things that your dog tears to shreds in less than five minutes.
Feeling foolish for spending money on something like that, you might next
offer your furry friend a household item, like an old plastic bottle, a tennis ball,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], an old shoe,
or something similar. But you soon realize that bits of plastic, rubber, and old shoe leather
are probably not the best thing for your dog's digestion. So...what do to?
Enter the rubber chicken,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]! Now I'm not a vet, a dog breeder, or any kind of
formal dog expert, but I have been amazed at how much fun our dog
is having with this new toy. I have a suspicion that she (our dog) knows
that the toy (the chicken) is a chicken - or at least a reasonable facsimile of
an animal she (our dog) would be interested in chasing, given the chance. What I mean is,
she (our dog) knows that this is not a tennis ball,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], or a slipper...she perceives the
"chicken-ness" of this toy!
The beating this poor little chicken has taken over the past few weeks
is astounding! At least a few times a day, the chicken is swung pretty
violently from side to side in our dogs mouth, or flung from one end of the
room to another - repeatedly. It's also a great tug-of-war object -
I'll get the feet and the chicken's head or neck is in our dog's mouth -and off we go.
In fact, our dog has learned to "go get chicken". If the chicken is in the next room,
"go get chicken" will send her searching for it and more often than not, she'll return
proudly displaying her find for us, walk up to get a pat on the head, and then off to
a corner to chew on it a bit more.
No other toy has demonstrated the ability to hold our dog's interest over a fairly
long period of time,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], to stay in one piece after being subjected to
some pretty tough treatment, and to add a bit of fun to our dog play.
So if you're looking for something new for your dog, get yourself a rubber chicken. This toy takes a lickin' and stays a chicken!
