While reading many articles from the major article submission sites, several glaring examples of what not to do will jump out at you. While most article submission sites have some good tutorials,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], it appears that few people actually read them before posting. Below, I will give a few examples of what NOT to do when submitting articles.
1. A big mistake people make is to write 500 words simply describing how "cool" something is then throw a sales pitch in the resource box. Nobody wants to read these ramblings of self promotion. Remember,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], these articles are intended to be journalistic and not the type of writing you would read on a personal blog. While your enthusiasm may be admirable, it is not the way to write an article. I suggest picking up your local newspaper and reading a few of the articles. Emotion is not a part of journalism,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], or at least it should not be.
2. Punctuation, grammar and spelling are another major issue. The best way to combat this is to write your articles locally, say in Word, before submitting them. The built-in spelling and grammar checkers will help a lot. Do not forget to proof read your articles several times before submitting. Look for any errors or parts that do not read easily or the way you intended.
3. The article is one long sales pitch. Again,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], journalistic principles come into play here. If the main goal is to promote a product or service, think of yourself as a journalist who is reviewing your product. Members of the media, when reporting on a product or service, tend to do so from a position of impartiality. Put yourself in those shoes. You are a reporter who is simply reporting the facts pertaining to the subject matter. Opinion and emotion have no place here. Be totally impartial and report only the facts. Most of the major article bases will kick back an article that sounds too much like a sales pitch. I know, it has happened to me. If you experience this, do a total re-write following the guidelines above.
These are just a few things to be mindful of as you prepare articles for submission. The argument has been made that all the irrelevant articles out there are ruining the intent of the sites who host them. While it can hurt the cause if article submission sites get too bad a reputation, and people stop reading the content,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but I do not see this happening. I prefer to think that,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], those of us who wrote quality content will stand out. Weeding through the throngs of articles may be difficult for users, but since most hits are via search results, the more relevant you are, the better your odds are of being ranked higher than the competition. As the volume of articles continues to increase, it is more important than ever to be relevant. If you want people to read what you have written, you have to stand out in the crowd... for the right reasons.
