I think what it came down to was my inexperience. Once we doubled up on songs, I wasn’t able to focus on both of my songs. My mind was just split. I just couldn’t deliver either, and I think that’s what it came down to."

The American Idol Reality TV singing competition, on May 13 features the three top contestants (David Cook, Syesha Mercado, David Archuleta), down from 4 as of May 7.
Syesha Mercado has run like a thoroughbred from the back of the pack (in the early days Simon found her lacking in personality and rather forgettable) to be a real contender. Syesha looks better each week, has taken a lot of risks (which have paid off), and has really come into her own. She could be being underestimated. Watch out, boys.
Jason actually addressed the forgotten lyrics -- every singer’s worst nightmare. Here’s what he had to say: “Yes. I knew them. I just – I know – like when I got up on stage that day, it was really rushed, and like I had barely sat in my seat, and they told me to go. And so my mind was just kind of in a blur, and I just sang and got to that part, and I kind of – I think I kind of forgot where in the chorus I was, so I didn’t know which ending I was supposed to be doing.”
The final 3 contestants are fighting it out for the two finale spots on May 12, 2008. The winner will get a million dollar recording contract.
On the flip side, David Cook continues to grow each week in style. He keeps trying new ways of singing, a variety of songs, new clothing and hair choices, and even some stage moves. In other words, David Cook is usually anything but boring. And his voice, which started strong, seems to improve week by week.
In the past, at this point in the competition, contestants are given song choices by a judge, the producers, and one song of their own choosing.
