as a young child the first time my parents took me to Mexico. It is such a beautiful country. We had what could be described as an interesting experience. Not one of us was able to speak more than a couple words of Spanish. Our understanding of the Mexican currency was very limited,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], so we were essentially clueless when it came time to pay our bill at restaurants and shops. Without a doubt we were overcharged a number of times.
The times you are unable to communicate are the times you realize how vitally important it is to be able to communicate.
Think about how secluded you have felt when friends were having a rousing conversation about a topic you had no clue about. You were unable to join interact with your group. Did you feel you were pushed aside? You were temporarily and outcast from your own community?
Now compound that unknown topic with a foreign language, one that you do not understand. You have no idea what the people around you are saying. Are they being friendly? Plotting against you? Can you feel the alienation? Would you be a little afraid? What would you do if you had an emergency?
Of all the languages in the world, why would you want to learn Spanish? Why not learn Russian,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], French or Italian?
Yes these are useful languages to learn. And there are opportunities to communicate in these languages. However, there is a rapidly growing population of Latin Americans in the U.S. and many only speak Spanish. So, it only seems practical for you to be able to communicate in Spanish.
Our public schools are becoming increasingly bi-lingual, and Spanish is the primary second language spoken there.
Spanish is also one of the most widely spoken languages in the world. Consider the fact that both Central and South America primarily speak Spanish. Add to that the ever-growing Spanish speaking population of the U.S. Add the two together, and you have close to a complete hemisphere that speaks Spanish. And don't forget Spain. Spanish is the national language in Spain. Yes a slightly different dialect but Spanish just the same.
If you are planning a vacation to a Spanish speaking country or you have Spanish speaking friends, you should explore learning Spanish. Even conversational Spanish would help you in these situations.
The ability to speak a second language opens the doors to even more opportunities. Consider that you are no longer limited to only living in English speaking countries. A huge world opens up to you when you are able to converse in a foreign language.
Studies have shown that the best way to learn conversational Spanish is essentially the same way you learned your native tongue. That means you need to hear Spanish being spoken and you need to speak Spanish as often as you can. Persist and you will see progress. Progress breeds self confidence, and this self-confidence equates to success.
