me guess you absolutely adore the following things:
1) Watching the clock drag round to 5.30pm every day
2) Listening to your colleagues inane chatter
3) Being trapped in a soulless office block for most of the day
4) Doing the same thing, every, single, day"
What, you don't? So what are you still doing there? Let's say [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], hypothetically, you had the chance to tell your boss where to go, move half way round the world to somewhere new and exciting, do a job where no two days are the same and have the chance to see a whole world outside of your cramped office block, would you take it? If you would [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], congratulations step this way and I'll tell you how.
It all starts with a TEFL course
Contrary to popular belief, travel isn't reserved for people who've managed to amass a small fortune in the bank. Due to the massive worldwide demand for English teachers, any native English speaker can get certified as a TEFL teacher and start teaching overseas.
As you'll be getting paid [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], it's perfectly possible to start living abroad with very little money in the bank. Generally all you need to cover is the cost of your TEFL course (which can be as little as $300), then the flight out to wherever you'll be calling home for the next 6-12 months. Some employers will even cover the cost of your flight (or reimburse you at the end of your contract).
But won't I just be walking into another dead end job?
Err, hardly teaching overseas is about as far from the 9-5 as you can get. Most new teachers teach kids, who are challenging, invigorating and infuriating in equal measures. That's before you even get started on the excitement of living in a totally new country, meeting loads of cool new people and sampling a world of exotic food!
To teach overseas isn't "wasting time" either you'll find that the leadership, communication and organisational skills you develop while teaching overseas will make employers sit up and take notice when you get home. So hopefully you won't get trapped in a dead end job ever again.
So how do I get the ball rolling?
Get involved in forums such as TEFL Chalkboard & check out job sites (e.g. eslbase.com or tefl.com) to find out where you can teach. Once you've got a fair idea of where you want to go, get an appropriate TEFL certificate and start the adventure of your lifetime. There's a whole wide world waiting for you.
So, who's thinking of escaping the 9-5 and seeing the world?
