The Event strings together many different people from different aspects of life to expose a big cover-up. Sean's quest will send ripples through the lives of an eclectic band of strangers, including newly elected U.S. President Elias Martinez (Golden Globe nominee Blair Underwood, In Treatment); Sophia Maguire (Emmy Award nominee Laura Innes, ER) [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], who is the leader of a mysterious group of detainees; and Leila's shadowy father (Scott Patterson, Gilmore Girls). Sean Walker wears his heart on his sleeves and in the first episode had plans to marry his long time girlfriend, Leila. Sean had already asked her father for permission, before they left for their vacation. When he tried to propose to her, he was interrupted by screams. A woman had fallen off a cliff into the ocean. He had to dive in and save her and never got an opportunity to propose again. After he went snorkeling he came back to his hotel room looking for his girlfriend and couldn't get in touch with her. Sean just wants to find his girlfriend, so that he can make her his wife.

According to NBC, this show is an emotional, high-octane conspiracy thriller that follows Sean Walker (Jason Ritter, The Class), an everyman who investigates the mysterious disappearance of his would-be fiancée Leila (Sarah Roemer, Disturbia), and unwittingly begins to expose the biggest cover-up in U.S. history.
Michael Buchanan is the father of Sean's girlfriend. Michael is a very dedicated father, but something must have went wrong, because he tried to crash a plane into the building that the president was in. What would make him try to kill the president? Does he know that his daughter is missing? Did he realize that he daughter's boyfriend was on the plane? He has a lot of question to answer.
Sophia Maguire is the leader and spokesperson of the detainees at the Mount Inostranka facility. President Martinez just recently found out about the detainees, since he was recently elected. He met with Sophia to discuss what her people have been going through. Sophia still has a lot to tell President Martinez, and he has a lot to learn from her.
This show is fast-paced and keeps you asking why. There are a lot of questions that still need to be answered. How long will they be able to keep this interesting? This show was kind of confusing, it goes back in forth in time throughout the show. If blink you may miss some vital information, like Heroes this show will probably draw you in until you miss an episode. Each character is somehow connected to the next. The more viewers watch the more they will understand how.
President Elias Martinez, is from Miami, Florida. He is considered Afro-Cuban and is very similar to the current president, Barack Obama. President Martinez is a black president with a foreign name, just like Obama and everyone has high hopes that he will change things and be more open then past presidents. His wife's name is Christina and he has a seven year old son named David. The president is also signing a bill for a new clinic in the first episode which just shows art imitating life. He seems more concerned with helping everyone else, than helping himself.
